Ki Pro Operation
Eagle Brook uses a rack-mounted video and audio recording deck to record local services for archiving and playback purposes, as well as a message backup solution during weekend services. The Ki Pro(s) lives inside one of the engineering racks in your control or engineering room.
Why We Use This
The Ki Pro recording deck is used at all of our locations in similar fashions, most commonly for local service recording and playback, and message backup recordings.
The Basics
The Ki Pro has two modes in which it can operate, record and playback. It cannot perform these operations simultaneously. In most cases, the Ki Pro is operated via the web interface or the DNF controller located near the System Tech location in your control room.
Technical Operation
Operating a Ki Pro for recording is similar to any other recording device. You will always want to make sure the drive that is mounted in the Ki Pro has enough space for the recordings you’ll be creating. On the front panel of the Ki Pro and on the web interface, a percentage of space remaining will appear. You’ll need at least 75% of a drive for a weekend, so it is always best to format the drive before the first recording of the weekend.
- To format the drive, press STOP, then MEDIA. Then navigate to menu 16.1 by using the SELECT arrows. Once in the FORMAT menu, press the ADJUST arrow up once to activate the FORMAT option. Then press the ADJUST arrow up again and a confirmation screen will populate, then press and hold the up arrow for 2 seconds to initiate the formatting.
- Once the drive is formatted, the Ki Pro will automatically flip into record mode. To record, you can use the red record button on the front of the Ki Pro, on the web interface, or on the DNF controller located at the System Tech desk.
- To enter into playback mode, use the SELECT arrows to navigate to any of the clips that have been recorded. You can then use the DNF Controller to enter a specific timecode, or you can use the fast-forward or reverse buttons to get to the point in the clip you need.
- To enter timecode on a DNF controller, select ENTER TIME, then type in the timecode including frames, select ENTER, then select GO TO. This time code will stay loaded no matter how many times you play and stop the clip, so if you need to get back to the timecode entered, simply select GO TO again.
When it’s time to archive clips from the Ki Pro, you will need to eject the drives. To do this safely, select SLOT, wait for the green light to turn off, then eject the drive.
