Broadcasting Live: Instagram
This article outlines the process of going live on any Instagram account using the web encoders at the broadcast site. The broadcast operations center can receive signals from any Eagle Brook location. Remote locations are possible through options like Skype or Zoom, or rental equipment.
If you or your team would like to broadcast live on Instagram from any campus for any event, please submit a service request for broadcast services.
Instagram caps live broadcasts to 60 minutes.
Broadcasting Live: Instagram
Prep Steps
- Route the source to Web 4.
- Instagram does not support redundant encoders, so only one encoder channel is required.
- Login to instafeed.me and use the Instagram account you're planning to use for broadcasting.
- All accounts have five free streams. More streams can be purchased.
- Eagle Brook's main Instagram account (@eaglebrookmn) has used all free streams.
- Open KB 1's web interface in a separate window, and line the two windows up next to each other.
- Make sure the encoder channel is stopped.
- Open the IG Live channel details, select the IG Live destination, then click the gear to open up the properties.
- Clear out the "Stream Name Template" section. This box is where you'll paste the new stream key.
The next steps will make the broadcast live on Instagram. There is not a way to create a stream key before going live, so these steps need to be completed quickly and precisely in this order.
Broadcast Steps
- When you're ready to broadcast, click the "Create New Broadcast."
- Copy the stream key from the box above the "Create New Broadcast" button.
- Paste the stream key in the KB encoder channel in the "Stream Name Template" box, then click "OK."
- Click "Apply."
- Turn the encoder channel on by pressing the play button.
- Once the encoder channel is on and the broadcast is confirmed to be functional on Instagram, turn the comments on by selecting this option next to the preview on instafeed.me.
When the broadcast is over, wait until the preview window on instafeed.me catches up to the end of the broadcast, then click "Stop Broadcast."
